Stillness in the Ruins ( The waiting Room Series)

This abstract reclining figure, with its gracious curves and introspective posture, invites us to a quiet but powerful meditation on what it means to seek peace in the midst of chaos. The body appears to rest not in luxury but in solitude, as though saying, “I will not be broken, even if the world around me crumbles.”

This sculpture talks more about the current happenings in my country on the economic hardship, high cost of living, insecurity (kidnapping) and situations average Nigerians find themselves today. Now Nigerians have embraced these situations believing “Nigeria will be great again”.

Where the nation falters and expectations erode, this sculpture suggests another truth: that solace can still be found, not in the structures that fail us, but in ourselves. In stillness. Having the understanding that surrender isn’t defeat, but a quiet reclaiming of power.

The exaggerated features and open spaces within the form reflect both vulnerability and resilience. The face, turned upward with a gentle grace, seems lost in thought and also in prayer, embodying the silent strength it takes to survive when the system offers nothing but disappointment.

“Stillness in the Ruins” is not just a sculpture. It’s a state of being and a visual hymn to those who have learned to breathe deeply, even when everything around them is falling apart.
